Attendance Dues

Attendance Dues are the compulsory property and insurance fee which parents and caregivers legally commit to pay when they enrol their child(ren) in a Catholic school.

The dues are used to pay for the costs of new school classrooms, gymnasiums, technology blocks and other buildings, pay off existing mortgages and pay for the insurance on all school property.

The Archdiocese of Wellington collects attendance dues on behalf of the proprietors of Catholic schools in the Archdiocese.

FAQ’s

Attendance Dues are invoiced usually in the 1st week of March, or at regular intervals during the year for any students that start later in the school year.

The March invoice is due by the 31st March.

If you are unable to pay the full amount by 31st March, you can make an arrangement to pay over the year in regular instalments. These arrangements must be agreed by the Archdiocese Dues team.

For subsequent invoices, the due date will be the end of the month when the invoice is generated.

Our acceptable payment methods include

Internet banking – you can set up automatic payments yourself from your bank account or your bank can do that for you.

Visa/MasterCard credit or debit card – by completing a credit/debit card form or for one off payments, please use the payment link.

No, all payments are to be made directly to the Archdiocese of Wellington.

You can start paying at the beginning of the year especially if you intend to pay the account via a payment plan. This option will allow you to spread out your payments evenly for the duration of the year.  Please note, you will need your attendance dues account reference to make payment.

Complete the information in the Enquiry box below “Setting up a payment plan.” Once the information is received by the Attendance Dues team, they will be in contact with you regarding confirmation or request further details if required. Once you receive acceptance, you need to ensure that you set up the automatic payments yourself through your internet banking or request your bank to assist you.

Log into your internet banking and check if the automatic payment schedule has expired. If that is the case, you may need to reset the automatic payment. The Attendance Dues team do not have access to your bank account and are unable to make any changes.

For credit card options you can pay weekly, fortnightly, monthly, every 2 months or every 3 months (termly).  We require a new credit card authorisation each year. If you have not provided your credit card authorisation for the current year, we are unable to process your payments. Please get in contact with the office immediately to get payments set up or update new credit card details.

Yes, especially since this may affect the amount of money you are required to pay.

The attendance dues are charged pro-rata on your account. If the charges apply to the time that your child was enrolled at the school/ college, then the amount is fully payable.

Please contact your school/college, parish or Attendance Dues team immediately to discuss your options.

Any overpayment into your account will result in a credit. The money will remain in your account and once the charges are applied the following year, you will have less to pay.

Yes, if you have overpaid. Refund requests must be received in writing.  You can email your request to dues@cadw.nz, together with your account number, account name and a screen shot confirming these details.

Since the Attendance Dues are a compulsory fee, any default in payment terms may make you liable for debt collection action. This may involve your account being handed over to our debt collection agency. This will incur additional costs to you and may affect your credit rating.

The Catholic Special Character Donation is a voluntary contribution that supports the Catholic identity, values, and faith formation that make our Catholic schools unique. The donation helps fund the services, training, and resources that strengthen the Catholic Special Character in all our schools.

The Archdiocese asks families for a $50 per student, per year Catholic Special Character Donation.

This donation is voluntary and tax‑deductible.

The costs of supporting and developing Catholic education have increased, and the Archdiocese can no longer fully subsidise these services on its own. All other dioceses in Aotearoa already request a similar donation.

Your donation helps fund essential Catholic Schools Education Services activities, including:

  • Development and rollout of the new Religious Education Curriculum (To Tātau Whakapono – Our Faith)
  • Formation programmes for Aspiring Leaders and Directors of Religious Studies
  • Tailored support and professional development for teachers, Boards, and school leaders
  • External Catholic Character evaluations

Every contribution—big or small—supports the ongoing strength of Catholic education and helps keep the Catholic Special Character vibrant in our schools.
